Dear friends of the Beethoven Center,
First, we would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who has supported our campaign to acquire the 7th Symphony score so far. We are especially grateful to Dr. Richard Sogg, a member of our board, who made a very generous gift to help get our campaign up and running. We are passing along a note from Richard to encourage you to make a gift if you have not already done so, or otherwise to pass along the message to other members of your network who share a passion for Beethoven’s works.
Why I donated
The 7th Symphony is one of my favorite works. What attracts me the most … besides the Allegretto movement … is the opening – the gentle way it starts, portending something amazing to come. Each movement builds on the one before. The Allegretto is special … I’m always disappointed when it ends and wish it could go on forever, into a spiritual realm. The Scherzo shows a bit of Beethoven’s sense of humor. He obviously had a smile on his face when he wrote it. Maybe he was happy because of Antonie Brentano … I believe she was the “Immortal Beloved” and I like to use the nickname “Antonie” for a beloved friend.
You can help bring smiles to many faces by helping the Beethoven Center acquire this special score. It belongs there, where it will be cherished and preserved forever.
Please give what you can!
