We are the graduating Class of 2019 Chicano Commencement Organization here at San Jose State University. We are a diverse group consisting of students from varying backgrounds including but not limited to Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Salvadoran, Dominican, Guatemalan, etc. Our class is working together to raise funds for our 49th Chicano Commencement ceremony celebrating 50 years since our organization has been established here at San Jose State University. This ceremony is held in Spanish and English in order for our families to understand and feel included.
50 years ago Class of 1968 participated in a walkout protesting the Universities’ lack of Latino representation within the institution. Nationally Chicano Commencement has clearly become a time to celebrate with loved ones and to celebrate how far we have come. It is a celebration of the Latino struggle in higher education and of growing academic success of all underrepresented communities. This is an opportunity for us to keep the tradition alive to celebrate the Class of 2019’s achievements despite the obstacles and barriers that students faced throughout their college experiences. What a great message to send to future Latino graduates that their success is supported by many.
We need your help! With your support, we will be able to keep on the tradition of Chicano Commencement alive to celebrate success within the Latino Community. You can directly support us with a donation of any amount. Class of 2019 appreciates any efforts to help make this ceremony happen. The money collected will be used to cover items such as a banquet room, dinner, catering, performances, and programs for the graduation ceremony. Choose the giving level that works for you, become an advocate, and spread the word to carry on this beautiful tradition. Please make your gift today!
Thank you for helping this year’s graduating class continue on the memories of Chicano Commencement ceremony. Your contribution does not go unnoticed and Class of 2019 appreciates you.
